Why DDG

Plant documentation from someone who designs plant equipment

After 18 years on the design side, we know what your next layout depends on: equipment envelopes, platform elevations, access, and clear routes for new lines. We scan and model with that in mind.

  • Clean data from a running plant

Setups are spaced so critical areas are captured at short range, and scans are registered in the field, so coverage is checked before we leave the site. Double Scan filters out people and forklifts moving through the plant.

  • Files your team already opens

Inventor parts and assemblies for equipment, Navisworks for coordination, and editable DWG drawings, plus neutral E57 or STEP files for other platforms.

    Deliverable formats
  • Scope and limits in writing

Each proposal marks the billable area on an agreed plan and lists modeling limits and exclusions. Each delivery includes a coverage summary of what was captured and what could not be seen.

Plants we document

Our design background is bulk solids handling. The same process applies wherever equipment, piping, and structure need documenting:

  • Bulk solids handling / ingredient systems
  • Food & beverage processing
  • Dairy processing
  • Feed, grain & milling
  • Grain elevators
  • Chemical & plastics processing
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Power generation
  • General manufacturing
  • Warehouse & distribution
  • Water treatment

Service tiers

Four tiers. Each one includes the one before it.

Buy only the levels your project needs. Each still shows the same example plant at that tier.

  1. Tier 1: Existing-Condition Scan

A registered point cloud of the agreed areas, with a coverage summary.

    Budgetary rate
    $0.12 – $0.35 / sq. ft.
    $2,500 project minimum
  2. Tier 2: Building Model

Adds floors, walls, roof geometry, stairs, doors, and building-access ladders.

    Budgetary rate
    Tier 1 + $0.30 – $0.60 / sq. ft.
    $3,000 minimum modeling add-on
  3. Tier 3: Building & Process Model

Adds equipment, associated piping, mezzanines, access ladders, and guardrails.

    Budgetary rate
    Tier 2 + $0.60 – $1.50 / sq. ft.
$5,000 minimum process-modeling add-on; high congestion quoted separately
  4. Tier 4: Existing-Condition CAD Drawing Package

Adds plans, equipment layouts, elevations, and sections as PDF and editable DWG.

    Budgetary rate
Tier 3 + fixed drawing fee
Starting at $3,500; based on the agreed sheet list and detail required
    Sample drawing sheets

Pricing is cumulative. Each higher tier includes the preceding tier. Modeling and drawing minimums are additional fees. Complex access, multilevel process areas, and projects over 100,000 sq. ft. are custom quoted.

Fabrication-critical tie-ins, flange locations, anchor bolts, and tight-clearance dimensions need separate verification before fabrication or installation, quoted separately. Verification rule

One area, four deliverables

Switch tiers to see a scanned area become a building model, then a building and process model, then an existing-condition drawing sheet. Drag to orbit, or use the view buttons.

Tier 1 · Existing-Condition Scan

Accessible agreed areas; processed point cloud, basic cleanup, alignment, quality checks, and coverage limitations.

Tier 2 · Building Model

Tier 1 plus visible floors, walls, ceilings, roof geometry, stairs, doors, and building-access ladders.

Tier 3 · Building & Process Model

Tier 2 plus equipment, associated piping, mezzanines, access ladders, and guardrails within the agreed scope.

Projects

Example project scopes

Illustrative scopes that show how area, tier, and deliverables fit together. Each is labeled as an example, not a client project.

  • Example scope

Bulk solids handling / ingredient systems

    Ingredient-system expansion

A 10,000 sq. ft. congested ingredient room scanned, modeled with its equipment and piping, and drawn as an existing-condition CAD package ahead of a system expansion.

    Area
    10,000 sq. ft.
    Area type
    Dense process

    Tiers 1–4
  • Example scope

    Warehouse & distribution

Warehouse conversion for a new packaging line

A 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse with pallet racking and an existing packaging line, scanned and modeled as a building so a new line can be laid out in its open area.
